Both
I want a SHORTER trailer that is less likely to “Wag the Dog” of my new F150.
And on those RARE occasions I want to be able to go from 2 mountain sleds on the floor to FOUR mountain sleds hung in the air.

And by Rare, I mean once, maybe twice a year..

I wouldn't worry about a sled trailer throwing u around, ur rated for 10k # or more and a 4 place will be half of that.

A short trailer vs a long trailer at the same weight tows worse. It is easier to turn around and park though.

If the towing is a concern, get a weight distribution hitch with sway control.

Where is your Sense of Adventure and Innovation guys.?

I am sure I have already seen this done.

Dang it I wish I had the photos to back it up.

The 20ft trailer fully decked out on the inside with only two sleds will be a dream to tow anywhere in the west behind the F150.

And the added weight of two more sleds really won’t make that much of a noticeable difference as compared to 8 more linear feet of a 28ft trailer if the weather gets bad and the winds kick up.

Heck, there were times my last 28 was wagging my F250 that had the upgraded +1 camper suspension on it. The longer trailers just act like a SAIL when the wind blows on the interstate. That’s when the king bed dually comes in handy!!

Long bed truck, sled deck and 20’ trailer. You could haul 5 if needed. Then you have a deck for early season/late season

Ya, I have thought about a sled deck over and over and over again. If it wasn’t for my Three Huskies I might go down that route. But all my trucks get a shell on them for the pups!

The other question is, can you distribute the weight evenly the way you are trying to stack the sleds?
Improperly loaded trailer can be a real chore to handle.

I can fit two in a 7x12 with a 2' v-nose, with plenty of room at the front for my cabinet/heater and such. Depending on how creative you get, I bet you can get 4 sleds in a 7x22 trailer, 155/165 should be fairly easy, 174 may be tight. With a 4' v-nose you may be able to pull that off with a 7x20 box.

You would be able to fit 4 sleds in a 7.5 x 20 with 5'v. Once I'm done with the flooring in my trailer I'm going to see if I can fit 4 sleds in it. 7.5x18 with 5'v.

that would be a 25" trailer...
I am looking for a 16" with a 5ft nose.

Something like this, (but 2ft longer in the main area if needed to accommodate the 2 extra hung sleds)

I currently have an 8.5' x 16' with 5' V nose all aluminum trailer. I use it for my SxS and it has the tall ceiling to hold the SxS with tracks so it's stupid tall. If done right I bet you could probably get 4 sleds in that if all of the floor space was open and you loaded the first two in forward and backed in the rear two. Maybe I can lay my hands on 4 long tracks and test it for you.

But going with your lifted rear of the sled idea. I think you would be better off in looking at something you put under the sled to lift the rear while allowing another sled to fit under. I know I have seen that before on here. I believe it was in one of the big gooseneck trailers and they had put 9 or 10 sleds in it with the back ends lifted over other sleds. That way you are not having to take the loads into the ceiling and walls while traveling.

Anyway I'm thinking about coming out in a few weeks. I'd pull this trailer out for you to play with but with the taller roof the Ecoboost gets thirsty pulling it. But we'll see what happens.

I have the easiest solution for u.
I have a 16 + 5 x 8.5 and i have put 4 sleds in my trailer.
The long tracks go on the right and the short tracks go on the left.
U just need to make sure the 2 extra sleds u haul are old short tracks.....

If the trailer is 7.5 wide maybe a long 2x2 tube across the trailer with heavy side supports. Sit the tracks on the tube i dont know how high one could go but think of it a 174 in a 5.5 truck bed with tail gate closed. Maybe a gate that would flip up or down in a trailer with cut outs for skis to slip through.

IDK we use a 8.5x20 plus 5' v and 4 165" i would say are tight
This sounds like the minimum I would get for hauling 165s. Friend has the same without the V and it's a fight to get 4 sleds in there without rubbing. And that's with snow flaps removed. I think we've done 3 160 length and 1 155.

IDK about you guys but the last thing I want to do at the end of a long day is lift sleds over other sleds in a trailer.
