cutler 70-80's in a 07 m8 standard
just chiming in with some info. i installed the cutler 70-80's in my 07 m8 standard. testing was done at about 1500ft.
i had previously been running a set of 73g cat weights that i borrowed to test my sled. i was revving about 7950 which is over revving as far as i know by about 150 rpms, correct me if im wrong.
i installed the cutlers, putting nothing in the tip, all weight in the heel. i loaded it up so it had about 75g in it. that sled has never hit that hard before. it was awesome out of the hole. however, it actually was over revving more with 2g more weight than the 73g cat weights. i was hitting about 8020-8030.
went home and loaded it up to be about 76g. the heel is now fully loaded with no more room for more weight. still felt decent, and it was still hitting over 7950. i did notice that across a flat field with about a foot of snow on it, i was hitting about 65 mph so i definitely understand what they mean about losing top end performance when you only heel load the weight.
the next step is to add a small weight to the tip to try to balance things out throughout the powerband.
the only thing i really don't get is when you heel load or toe load, they say to bottom out the set screw. there must be a spot in the weight where the threads aren't fully tapped through. otherwise you would never bottom it out. so, lets say one were to put .75g in the toe, and about 1g in the heel. you really wouldn't be heel loading or toe loading would you??
i definitely like the ability to adjust weight so easily. even if you need a bottle torch and some loctite to do it. i have been just using blue loctite. the green stuff is harder to come by where i am.
i ran those 73g cat weights last winter in the bighorns and cooke city. i found it only hit about 7500 rpms, so it was lacking some, but the sled felt like it still had good power.
i am thinking with the cutlers, of running bare weight when i get there, 70g, and going for a quick rip to see what it hits. then if needed i will add a little to the heel for low-mid range performance.
if anybody has any other tips regarding these weights in the 07-09 motor, please post them. very curious if im doing things right or if i should be changing stuff.
