After chinook closes it happens a few times a yr. Google maps shows FSR70 as a road. I don't think he would have made it past the cell tower short cut meets back up on the 70 rd. Even with a real set of chains. He has cheap cable chains. The broke where he's at.
I google mapped from Auburn to Cliffdell and it does list this as an option, which is ridiculous. Kind of feel sorry for the guy but then again proof you can't blindly trust google maps. I don't think google should offer this option even in summer as you never know when they'll close the gate around Pyramid. I put a change request to google maps to not offer this as auto route as it is closed periodically without any notice as crosses private forest land and is not a safe route, especially this time of year.
