Looks like it's been hot under there, IMO.
And judging from your piston top...I'd say you need more fuel and less air.

There is no build up on my pistons what so ever! smooth and clean as a babies butt that just got a bath! They are a little brown/black colored. But nothing on top! Little confused! I know how to read wash.. But never have with AV-gas. Like I said, all my gauges point to everything is great.

Heres a few more pics!

nice work Slash. thought I would "copy-paste" as I hate when links suddenly go away.

AV Gas has a MOR (motor octane rating) of 96, R+M/2 rating of 100, and ROM (Research Octane Rating) of 106.

AV Gas is lighter than racing gasoline thus more fuel/larger jetting is required.

AV Gas is not formulated for High Altitude. and will have very little, if not any performance differences vs racing gasoline. On the other hand, commercial grade fuels (87, 89, 92) will definitely enhance your performance due to the commercial fuel being oxygenated. The Oxygen enhancers added to commercial fuel is only for California Smog laws.

Good Luck,
Steve Poole
Based on a couple statements made I have to discount a lot said. Lots of myths with avgas! Try this thread and I think it's more informative. http://www.snowestonline.com/forum/showthread.php?t=220800&highlight=avgas

So if burning Av gas leaves no wash and EGT's are way diff. How are all of you dialing them in ?? plug readings only ?? ancient chinese secret.
like to know

It takes some time and a lot of checking, at least for me. I mostly go by the pistons, the plugs can be harder to read with it. Don't have an egt gauge yet. I started running avgas this year. But my pistons don't look like that. With about a 1/3 avgas mixed in, my pistons are a nice burnt orange color on the wash and a darker brown/orange color in the middle. Maybe it would be more gray if running a much higher mix of avgas. It does turn plugs anywhere from gray to white, sometimes with a bit of yellow.
