Dave,That pic of your piston is good?Still trying to understand piston wash.
The wash is actually fat, but that may be the only thing that keeps the turbo happy.
This pic shows a ton of wash at the intake ports and a good amount at the transfer.

So more carbon the better?Meaning runnin rich?Which is good!!
Wash is where the fuel has "washed" the carbon off the edges of the piston. No wash means super lean
Be time for this before too long.

Yep Ray, JR's t-bo. Might be boiling the fuel in the fuel rail causing a vapor lock. Some shielding may do the trick.

Looks like the exhaust side wash is too thin. Probably get away with it on a stock motor but on a performance motor, more wash is advisable (according to many builders). Wash is caused by un-burnt fuel "washing" over the edge of the piston at the ports. It cools and lubricates the rings/piston on the exhast port side. Not enough wash on the exhast side and it heats up to much and the aluminum melts, or siezes. http://www.bikemanperformance.com/tech_detail.php?ta=4
