Got this email today from Jared Polis on the Hidden Gems agenda. Remember, even if you don't ride Summit/Eagle County, you still don't want this to happen...cause the people that ride there will soon venture to your riding areas.

Email:
decisions about how we use our public lands are critical to our future, and that everyone should have a say. That’s why I am undertaking an extensive public review process throughout the area to get your feedback, including numerous public hearings, office hours and mail and online surveys.

What Is the Hidden Gems Wilderness Proposal?

This proposal would add a number of new Forest Service areas to the National Wilderness Preservation System. Wilderness areas ensure important lands remain undeveloped for generations to come. Wilderness areas prohibit things like oil and gas leasing, permanent structures and new roads, and are a refuge for activities our economy relies on like fishing, hunting, hiking and camping. Other popular activities like mountain biking and motorized recreation are restricted in wilderness, but the specific boundaries should leave most mountain biking trails and motorized recreation areas unaffected and more compromises are being developed as well.

What Areas Are Under Consideration?

The current draft proposal contains both new areas and additions to current wilderness areas within Summit and Eagle Counties. A draft map of areas under consideration and maps showing specific trail detail and boundaries can be found at www.polis.house.gov/wilderness.

I encourage you to attend an event, fill out a survey and share your expertise and opinions with me on this issue.

Sincerely,

We need to get as many people as possible to show up at the Eagle County meeting. It would be great to get a lot of people at the other meetings as well. The problem is that the Summit meeting is at noon, which will be tough for people. The front range guys should be able to make the Boulder meeting. We need to show opposition for this train wreck. Mark your calendar and bring 5 more people. Have them bring 5 people.

Take the survey!

I'm still trying to figure out who decides who receives this newsletter/survey. Bottom line is, he controls the results by selecting the recipents.

It's important that every Colorado Snowmobiler takes this survey. We've got to show we use the forest and that we don't want this wilderness.

This Hidden Gems Wilderness is just the first step in their master plan. We don't shut this down, Wilderness will be coming to a forest by you, just wait.
