It looks like cat will be competitive again in the NA segment, even potentially the best.
On certified dyno 800ctec2 had 144hp, Patriot 850 155hp, 850etec 163hp and 850turbo 165hp.

So that would make new 858 161hp.

This video is wrong units. Look at torque over 130. Dyno research had a 2018 at just 160hp. New ctec picked up a few hp, so the current ctec is as cat advertises a 165hp engine or close too. The 858 is going to be a blast at 183hp, really hoping a 154 3inch 858 Garmin gauge catalyst is 400lbs dry. Will be a great sled. Now if cat repeats itself exhaust wise, hopefully drop 15-20lbs and add 10hp with a pipe kit on an 858 and you have a pretty unbeatable package.

Those numbers are pretty kick ass for a na sled a sea level but most of us ride at 6k ft+ and I’m at 10k+. If your numbers are correct a cat 858 would be around 128 hp at 10k ft and a doo turbo R will be around 169 hp. Definitely a step in the right direction but is high elevation guys are still waiting for factory boost.

I’m on boost and won’t be changing anytime soon. Cat might have the NA segment locked down, which is nice to see.

Yay, Cat resisted the temptation to build a 900 just for the "well, you've gotta" types, or to call a smaller motor a "900." Face it, for 90% of riders, this is all they need. Yeah, if you chase the good snow and ride above 10k regularly, you'll want a turbo. That's not me, nor is it most riders. Yeah, a 900 would be nice for people who need instant power, but even less of a "need" than a turbo. If Cat can beat the current NA 850s and the chassis is where it needs to be, they'll be right back in the thick of it. A 900(+) and a turbo would mean a few more sales, but eat up a lot more R&D money. Hopefully some day, but getting this 858 right is what Cat needs to be profitable.

Living on a dream land? If they had +180hp on n.a. engine, they would not be shy to put it out. But just like Polaris, they like to speak about % as they know they cant match the competition hp numbers. With ctec2, they only said that its there in the 165hp perfomance class, which just says that their sled can be compared to other big blocks as total peformace wise. Total performance on the snow is much more than just a hp number. A sneaky way to dodge questions about actual hp.

Truth is that as long as they dont have direct fuel injection, they dont have a change to meet enviromental needs together with high hp and torque. But as cat said themselves when introducing 800 ctec, this technology is too expensive and complicated for them.

When they put this new 858 to a certified dyno, I bet it will be +160hp which makes it competitive against other n.a. sleds out there. With new chassis, I believe it will be a solid option for many riders.

Here’s 2 dyno runs at 6000’. Doesn’t look like 20+ hp difference between a 850T and a ctec.

Most stupid thing ever, make a drag race with deep snow sleds on a lake. 165" with short gearing against 153" with longer gearing. Put a any 600cc trail sled there and it will smoke them both and all mountain sleds on the market. Does it mean its the most powerfull sled there? Ofc not.

Muskoka Freerider has some drag racing up the hills on deep snow, thats way more interesting way to compare between mountain sleds.

Polaris buddy rides?
I don't know for sure but I doubt it is compatable. I don't know what frequecy Polaris runs but Garmin was approved for data over voice channels for their handheld Rinos. This will be nice as it is likely to become an industry standard. It is possible that Polaris applied for this but I have not heard of anyone being able to connect their S7 guage to GMRS or FRS radios.
