Dear Friend,

As Alaskans, we know the true importance of protecting the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge as exactly that: a refuge. Right now is the first time US Fish and Wildlife Service is considering to permanently protect the Coastal Plain of the Refuge as wilderness--so we need lots of folks to show up and support this.

Some places are just too extraordinary to drill, and the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is one of them. Please testify at the public hearing tomorrow in Anchorage !

Come celebrate the Arctic Refuge before the hearing with an "Arctic Refuge Cultural Celebration" complete with:
- Rap performances by Allison Warden, aka AKU-MATU, an Inupiat Eskimo artist
- Traditional performances by Inupiat and Gwich'in dancing
- Refreshments like caribou soup!

Event Details
WHO: Alaskans who cares about the Arctic
WHAT: Arctic Refuge Cultural Celebration and public hearing.
WHEN: Wednesday, September 21st, 1:30pm-9:30pm
* 1:30-3:00pm: our "Arctic Refuge Cultural Celebration" -- don't miss it!
* 3:00-9:30pm: US Fish and Wildlife Service public hearing. The sign-in sheet begins at 2:00pm - get there early, because it's first-come, first-served.
WHERE: Wilda Marston Theatre, Loussac Library, 3600 Denali Street , Anchorage , AK 99503

The US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) just released a draft plan called the Comprehensive Conservation Plan (CCP), which for the first time formally considers a Wilderness designation for the Coastal Plain--the biological heart of the Arctic Refuge.
