I have 20/41 gearing in my 06 700. From what I'm reading, the 19/42 seems to be the set up of choice when changing from stock.
Majority of my riding is mountain riding and boondocking.
2 questions:

1. What kind of performance difference would I experience?
2. Will the stock chain work with 19/42

Thx

Gains,

1. your clutches will run cooler
2. Your belt will last longer
3. you will feel more torque on the bottom end
4. You may use more of your clutches as they will be more likely to achieve maximum shift-out

Negatives,

1. the sled may feel more 'jumpy' at first
2. you will lose a few MPH on the top end for high-speed trail running

You dont really want to run these tracks over 70MPH for any extended length of time anyway so that is basically a non-issue.

All in all you would be better off to gear to 19:42 if your riding the mountains... Also you could go to 19:41 and see how you like that as it will save you from having to buy a new bottom gear and still get you pretty close.

And yes, the stock chain on the 06 will work with 19:42

For speeds:

Recommended 2006 gearing combos with stock 76P chain

20:41 @ 7500 RPM - 81.2 MPH - Stock RMK gearing
19:41 @ 7500 RPM - 77.1 MPH
19:42 @ 7500 RPM - 75.3 MPH
18:42 @ 7500 RPM - 71.3 MPH

Recommended 2005 gearing combos with stock 90P chain

19:39 @ 7500 RPM - 81.1 MPH - Stock RMK gearing
19:41 @ 7500 RPM - 77.1 MPH
18:39 @ 7500 RPM - 76.8 MPH
18:40 @ 7500 RPM - 74.9 MPH

Ideal RPM stock motor - 7400 RPM
Ideal RPM with SLP Pipe - 7800 RPM

Just a lil extra info for those wanting it:beer;

I run the 19/42 on my 06 900 166" with stock chain and it works real well.

Where's the best place to buy new gears? I don't want to replace my chain. Just change fron 39 to 41.

I bought most of my stuff from Carlscyclesales online from there WPS snowmobile parts page when you click accessory superstore. Also if you have a dealer closer to you they will be able to order the gears from Western Power Sports.

Eagle River Polaris or Marita in Anchorage can get them for you through WPS. It only takes a couple of days if they are already not in stock. By looking at your forum name, you should also be able to get a 10% discount with your ID card at Marita.
