Ive got an 03.5 1m 900 151. This is my first year will a 1m and I've got a few questions. I'm going out to cooke on the 16th, whats the best clutching and jetting setup to go with? I weigh about 200lbs in gear. I just dont want to use up a whole day getting it clutched and jetted properly. The engine is stock except for I put the snorkel on the air box up to the speedo hole. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Jim

trying to remember but with a stock can and the snorkel (snorkel add about 2-3 jet sizes) I would start with 360 mains with the needle in the center clip. clutching: 66 or 68g in the primary with the stock yellow green? and a 49 or 51 helix with a NEW red/w in the middle hole.

Thanks, Ive heard that the yellow/green spring is to soft for the 900. I heard to run the orange/white. Does this sound right? And what RPM should the stock engine run?

don't know about the or/w but stock i like to shoot for about 7600-7700 so on a long climb it drops to about 7500. the stock target it 7400-7500

I have a '04 KK and just took it for a run this weekend at low elevation. Was turning about 7400 with 77 gram weights (which cat suggests) if I want to raise RPM to 7800 to 7900 would the best change be to go to a 75 gram weight? How much will 2 grams change RPM?

Thanks

on my 03.5 900 in cooke i ran 64 gram weights, stock yellow green spring a straight 55 helix with a purple spring in center hole,i had the holtz atacc so i cant give anything with jetting but that clutch set up worked for mine, but i also run D&D y pipe, single pipe and can, also a 30hp shot of nos,i also tried 68 gram weights which worked ok but in long pulls my rpms dropped considerably, with the 64s i pulled 7500-7600 in long pulls and 7900-8000 on nos

What is different from an 03 1m 900 to 04 king cat as far as clutching /gearing. The 03 cat recommends a 71.5 gram weight for low elevation and the 04 King recommnends a 77 gram weight?

From what I can see, the differences are:

'03 1M l
gearing: 20:39 (low alt) 19:43 (high alt)
Secondary setup: 55/53 (low alt) or straight 55 (high alt) helix with a red/white spring.
Primary Setup: Purple spring with 71.5g weights from 0-3000', 70.5g from 3-6000', 67g for 6-9000' and 64g over 9000'.

'04 King
gearing: 19:40 (low alt) 19:43 (high alt)
Secondary setup: opposite of the '03 1M, straight 55 (low alt) 55/53 (high alt) red/white spring
Primary setup: titanium yellow/green spring, 77g for 0-3k, 72g for 3-6k, 69g for 6-9k and 66g for 9k+

Part of the reason for the heavier weights in the King may be because of the different spring, also the clutches themselves are different. The King uses the newer 6 tower clutch with set screws. I believe these normally take a heavier weight to get similar results.
