There is a lot of threads about gearing! We need one that has it all together
sizes, ratios, chain lengths exc.

17-39= 2.29 --- 18-39= 2.16 --- 19-39= 2.05 --- 20-39= 1.95 ---- 21-39= 1.85
17-40= 2.35 --- 18-40= 2.22 --- 19-40= 2.10 --- 20-40= 2.00 --- 21-40= 1.90
17-41= 2.41 --- 18-41= 2.27 --- 19-41= 2.15 --- 20-41= 2.05 --- 21-41= 1.95
17-42= 2.47 --- 18-42= 2.33 --- 19-42= 2.21 --- 20-42= 2.10 --- 21-42= 2.00
17-43= 2.52 --- 18-43= 2.38 --- 19-43= 2.26 --- 20-43= 2.15 --- 21-43= 2.04
17-44= 2.58 --- 18-44= 2.44 --- 19-44= 2.31 --- 20-44= 2.20 --- 21-44= 2.09
17-45= 2.64 --- 18-45= 2.50 --- 19-45= 2.36 --- 20-44= 2.25 --- 21-45= 2.14

Excellent idea: Send MountainHorse a PM and ask him about gathering the posts & setting one up.

BIGDAWG has a gearing/chain length ratio calculator that he can post or send you.

here is my post in another thread. You are welcome to make it a sticky or whatever works. It is just a simple calculator. i also have another calculator that is fun to play with that figures ratios and mph gearing and ration calculator download

I have made a chain length calculator in excel to help anyone out that needs to figure out chain length for gear combination's.

you input your center distance of your chain case, top and bottom gear teeth and it will give you the ratio and length of chain. here is a screen shot of it.

if you know where i could upload it for down load and how to do it let me know. chain length calculator download chain length calculator download

Patience young Jedi...Patience. :p I'm not trying to set the world or the forum on fire, but I do want to create an important info type of sticky for everyone. I'm still trying to figure all this out so bear with me for a little while.

I've said it before, everyone should have a factory service manual for their sled. They are an invaluable tool to have. They even have the charts that you are interested in.

You will find this and many other important topics located in the "Increasing Your IQ" sticky at the top of the page. :beer; enjoy!

i've heard the best combo out there is a 19-42 for 800 CFI RMK's

Yea that is a good ratio, but best is hard to say. Depends on what you do with your sled.

and what is the stock chain pitch?

I want to run 19-45 gearing, and it looks like it is a good set up for what i want, but i just need more info and so far havn't found it.

We should all post our top speeds-and what gearing we have to acheave that. I am looking for a top speed of about 65mph. If my math is right, 19-45 gearing is equal to about 69-72 mph top speed...

How about the part numbers for the gears too? Anyone have those

Yup. Ordered some Team 19/42's via Western Power Sports. Will give you the Team part #'s and the WPS part #'s.

Polaris 19 Tooth Team #351352-004 WPS #31-01319

Polaris 42 Tooth Team #930270 WPS #31-01342

Placed the order with dirtcheapsnow.com online.
The 19 Tooth was $30.34 and the 42 Tooth was $47.40
Real good folks to work with. You could order directly from Team and pay a few more bucks. If you order from Polaris, you'll pay a whole lot more.

Hope this helps.

Rookie gearing question here,
My 09 d8 has already been clutched, but has stock gears, I'm looking to get rid of the 41t n put a 42t on and run 19/42.. Like everyone says is best in the mountains.
My question is can I just swap the gear in the chaincase and go? Or do I need to change things in my secondary.. Due to the gear change?

Thanks

Just adding one tooth to the bottom gear won't throw your clutching off enough to notice. Just make sure your belt deflection is set correctly. You'll be able to creep around a little easier and won't trench as much when you take off. You will notice you'll be driving around at slightly higher rpms than before because of lower gearing, but thats actually better for your clutches and belt (less heat, belt towards middle/outer third of the sheaves=more belt contact). 19-42 is pretty ideal for overall mountain riding. I am curious to see what 19-43 feels like.

Awesome I presume the sled will feel snappier and little increase on track speed while climbing ?

Cheers

Forgot to mention this point. On the Team bottom gear, you should also get a washer inside the package with the gear. Make sure you place the washer on the splined shaft before you slide the gear on. When fully seated, the gear should line up with the end of the shaft. If you look at the OEM Polaris gear, it's wider at the hole than the Team gear. The washer makes up the difference.

I run 24\42 gears and 68 weights on 2010 Assault pulls hard and top speed of 97mph on logging road had no trouble in the deeper stuff, it may be different for others depends how they work the throttle.
