Hey guys/gals,

My pro has been idling really poorly once warmed up. So slowly that the gauge loses power then comes back on etc.

Has anyone else had this issue or heard of this happening? Any ideas of a probable cause?

Started around the end of last season. Was to the point that I couldnt get in reverse because of the low idle it would just die.

I was definitely leaning toward the TPS sensor. I will look into that first and let ya know what I find! Thanks guys!

This was usually a sign on the CFI4's that meant the motor was about done...piston skirt scarring and eventually getting the "DET" sensor with limp mode to get back to the trailer. Pull the exhaust valves and take a look at the pistons, at the least. But the above advice is solid.

I wouldn't disagree with any of the advice above but I would check the throttle cable adjustment first. Too much slack or not enough will cause idle issues.

Dont overlook this! Had to adjust the cable on my 12 and 14 to resolve idle/reverse issues. Eric

I can see how a misadjusted throttle cable could cause a fast idle but I don't see how it could cause a slow idle.

Throttle adjustment has been very critical on Polaris CFI's going back to the Dragon days.

If there's too much slack in the throttle cable then the throttle switch doesn't close and the throttle switch will not register "closed throttle" to the ECM. In this situation, the ECM thinks the throttle is stuck in a possible wide open position.

The symptom can be low idle with possible runnability issue's, slow rev's, backfiring, etc.

I've seen this so many times I can't count.

How do you know the proper tension on the cable? just tighten until the idle picks up?

Throttle Lever Free Play: .010-.030 (0.25-0.8mm)

Turning the in-line adjuster inwards (clockwise) will
increase throttle lever free-play.
Turning the in-line adjuster outwards (counter-clockwise)
will decrease throttle lever free-play.
After setting the throttle lever free play, always verify the oil
pump adjustment is set correctly.

This is copied from the shop manual. The cable adjuster is on the right side of the bars, about 5-6" from the throttle block. Slide back the plastic sleeve and you will see the adjuster. Eric
