Ok guys, I am sticking this to the XP sled section. I want people to post links to any other threads and just post in here about issues that you are finding with your XP's, what people are doing to fix it, any updates you hear about etc.

The first thing I would like to add to the thread is the link to Winter Brews thread about rear motor mount bolts breaking the heads off. It is right here http://www.snowest.com/forum/showthread.php?t=165604

I will unstick that thread so to access it, just use the link.

Hopefully this will give us XP guys a place to look and see what guys are having problems with without having to search the whole forum!

Hey guys,

I just got a 09 summit 163. I have noticed a little bit of sag in the rear suspension. Is that a pretty common problem? Are there any good fixes, short of replacing the rear suspension.

Thanks

Everyone with a '08 should put in a '09 primary clutch spring cap/bushing assembly. More precise fit and better bushing material. Same part number but the updated part will come in a box, not a bag. :beer;

Also, the updated secondary belt adjuster is a bit of an improvement as well.

I didnt know about the oil cable. I will have a look at that!

Thanks!

Thats good info.

I also completely forgot about this until I just remembered that my 2008 throttle cable frayed and broke. My buddy's did the same thing as well. Im not sure if it was a limited issue but it happened at about the 3k mile mark on both sleds. I felt the cable take on a funny feel a ride before it did it but I never expected it to break. It happened to let go at the bottom of a bowl with the only way in and out a pretty good chute...made for an interesting adventure.

Everybody should lube and check the throttle cable for sure! It broke after the splitter.

Also John, what is the deal with the 08 shocks?? Oil breaking down early or something?? Or is this back to the nitrogen pressure issue??

Good thread folks

Also thought of another one. Check the bolts holding the Y pipe on as I believe it is still an issue of them coming out.

Comon XP issues.......

1. Y-Pipe bolts may be loose. They my require snugged up a 1/2 turn.
1. The TRA clutch historically requires attention.
3. Some guy's prefer longer limiter straps
4 Rear torsion springs for "Heavy Riders" need upgraded
5. Fuel Gauge not accurate
6. Handwarmers 2008 XP issue.
7. Recoil melts causing pull rope to fail

Maintenance .......

1, Keep clutches clean (every 3rd ride)
2. Keep track adjusted
3. Keep suspension thawed
4. Keep parts greased. Moister in suspension parts use lots of grease
5. Check ski alignment

Many of the issues surrounding skidoo is not just limited to the XP. There just historical issues that for what ever reason BRP can not justify correcting. Example: RECOIL FAILURE

DOHH in my best Homer voice... Y-pipe bolts thanks ski-doo guy...

I recomend the Nord-Loc washers and a spot of red loctite..no more problems...

OT- the limiter strap length is irrelevent..the front shock is too short...anything longer than the last hole in stock strap = shock limiting front arm drop = bad for inside shock...BJ

BJ, let me correct my statement about the limiter strap.....The XP limiter strap does not have enough adjustment for some riders ( i think theres 2 instead of 3). The looser strap will allow the front end of the sled to stay up on the snow better in deep snow. As for the center shock i believe the shock length is the same as years past. The 2 springs however is new for the XP which i don't know why BRP opted for 2 springs vs the traditional 1 spring in the center shock. Must be due to selling more parts 2 spring purchase vs a 1spring purchase.
